MEETING MINUTES

JUNE 2, 2008

 

PRESENT

 

MEMBERS:  Tracy-Lynn Abbott, Eileen Bischoff, Claire Ellis, Jan Henderson, Cathy Henry, Stephanie Ilberg-Lamm, Kevin Peck, Alison Pike and Recreation Director Tara Barker.

GUESTS:  Laura Batchelder

 

DANIELLE HARMON AWARD

 

Before opening the public portion of the meeting, the Commission, with input from Laura Batchelder, voted on this year’s Danielle Harmon Award for Sportsmanship.  Kevin Peck motioned to confirm the choice for girl. Motion seconded by Stephanie Ilberg-Lamm.  APPROVED.  Cathy Henry motioned to confirm the choice for boy.  Motion seconded by Tracy-Lynn Abbott.  APPROVED.  The awards will be presented on June 18th.  Congratulations go out to the recipients.

 

OPENING

 

The June 2, 2008 meeting of the Stratham Recreation Commission opened at 8:20 p.m.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

Kevin Peck motioned to approve the May 2008 minutes.  Motion seconded by Eileen Bischoff.  APPROVED.

 

SOFTBALL

 

The new scoreboard is up at the field behind the Municipal Center.  The Softball Board decided to go with a manual scoreboard.  There are 165 participants in the program this year.

 

STEVENS PARK PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE

 

The equipment for Phase 2 of the playground has arrived.  Tara Barker and representatives of the equipment company will prep the area on June 13th.  Installation of Phase 2 equipment is scheduled for June 14th.  The committee is looking for 20-30 adult volunteers for installation.  The grand opening for the completed playground will be held on June 19th at 4:00 p.m.  The brick drive fundraiser will continue through the opening. 

 

DAY OF CARING

 

This year’s United Way Day of Caring went well.  There were 20-25 volunteers from Liberty Mutual on hand to install new playground equipment at Stratham Hill Park.

 

REVOLVING ACCOUNT

 

The account still needs to be reconciled.  Discussion was tabled until the July meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

·         Municipal Center Building Plan: The Recreation Office has been temporarily moved to the Town Clerk/Tax area.  The new storage area for the Recreation Department will have access from both outside and inside the building.  There will be a shared meeting room with the Library.  The Library will handle the booking of space for this room.

·         Stevens Park Committee: The Selectmen would like to reinstate this committee.  The new committee will be comprised of one member from each sport board and Recreation Director Tara Barker.  The next meeting of this committee will be Tuesday, June 17th at 7:00 p.m.

·         Stratham Fair: The Recreation Commission will not run arts and crafts at this year’s Stratham Fair.  The Jump Rope Club will perform.

·         The Jump Rope Club will run during the summer at the basketball courts at Stratham Hill Park.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

·         Summer Camp is filling up.  The rosters should be full by the start of the camp.

·         Hopping Baseball Camp is filling up.

·         Hopping Softball Camp has been cancelled due to low interest.

·         The 5th Grade Party is organized.  The DJ, food, chaperones and prizes are all set.

The next meeting of the Stratham Recreation Commission will be July 7, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.  Kevin Peck motioned to adjourn the June meeting.  Motion seconded by Tracy-Lynn Abbott.  APPROVED.  Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
