Minutes of the Stratham Heritage Commission
November 11, 2008

Hearing Room, Municipal Building

 

OPENING:

Members present: Becky Mitchell, chair, Nancy Hansen, treasurer; secretary pro tem/alternate member, Beverly Connolly; Selectmen’s Rep, Dave Canada; alternate, Flossy Wiggin.

Meeting:  Opened at 5:35 and adjourned at 6:30 pm.

Minutes:  October 14 meeting minutes, written by Beverly Connolly, were accepted. 

Treasury Report: None. Nancy Hansen gave a report on an upcoming expense of $125 for 5 bricks in Veterans Park. Dave Canada reported that the town’s budget is on track however, income is down. Therefore, the commission should seek board approval for any large expenditure. ($500.00+)

 

2009 Budget Planning: Becky and Nancy will meet to discuss preliminary plans for the 2009 budget. A vote on the commission’s budget presentation to the town’s Budget Committee will take place at the December meeting. Some future expenses are a battery for the laptop computer and training by Lynne Monroe for commission members and others interested in helping with the survey of historical resources. It is anticipated that commission members then will be able to train other individuals for the survey.

 

BUSINESS:

 

Survey of Historical Resources: Debbie Long gave a database demonstration for commission members. The database conforms to that of NHDHR. Becky, Nancy and Bev had a previous demonstration earlier in the month. Deb is making several minor changes to the program.

 

Veteran's Registry:  Nancy and Bev are continuing to look into software that is Excel compatible for inputting the Veterans’ Registry data. Nancy reported that the Veterans’ Garden looks great, thanks to Recreational Dept. head, Tara Barker, and that the Veterans’ Day Service this morning (11/11) was very nice.

 

Resignation of Sara Kellner: Becky read a letter of resignation from Sara. The original copy was sent to the board of selectmen.
