Minutes of the Stratham Heritage Commission
October 14, 2009

OPENING:                                                                                                                                                        Members present: Becky Mitchell, chair; Nancy Hansen, treasurer; Beverly Connolly, secretary; M J Werner, Planning Board Rep; Nathan Merrill and Flossie Wiggin, alternate members.

Meeting: Held in the Municipal Center. Opened at 5:40 and adjourned at 6:40 pm.

Minutes:  September 9 meeting minutes, written by Bev Connolly, were accepted.

Treasury Report:  September 30, 2009, balances were reported by Nancy Hansen. The town budget balance is $3284.47. In September there were survey expenses totaling $119.68. The Heritage Fund balance is $3,447.11. The increase reflects income from a flag sale and earned interest.

OLD BUSINESS:

Planning Board: MJ Werner reported that the Town Center grant application was not well accepted in the draft form. The committee has responded regarding various points to the RPC, where it will go for a final vote. She mentioned that even if the grant is not forthcoming, she would like input from the commission regarding design elements for the future project. Advice from property owners in the designated area is being solicited.

Survey of Historic Resources: 20 participants attended the September 26th training session. Mary Kate Ryan from DHR sent several positive notes to us regarding the planning and preparation, which had taken place. There was discussion regarding photos to be included with survey material. It was agreed that “official” photos would best be taken by a single photographer. Becky will look into finding a likely volunteer.

The list of properties to be surveyed will be circulated for people to select preferences. Becky will write a one-page description of the survey for property owners wanting reference material. It was agreed that survey sheets can be submitted on numbered sheets, preferably as Word documents or typed for ease of correction and entry in the database.

Town website: Becky and Nancy talked with Lesley regarding our HC page. Information and three photos have been submitted for the page. We hope to use our page as a resource with links to events and information of interest to old house owners and those interested in preservation.

NEW BUSINESS:

There was none.
