Minutes of the Stratham Heritage Commission
July 14, 2009

OPENING: Members present: Becky Mitchell, chair; Nancy Hansen, treasurer; Beverly Connolly, secretary; Flossy Wiggin, alternate member; M J Werner, Planning Board Rep; Dave Canada, Selectman.

Meeting: Held at M.J. Werner’s residence/opened at 5:40 and adjourned at 7:10 pm.

Minutes: June 9 meeting minutes, written by Bev Connolly, were accepted.

Treasury Report: June 30, 2009, balances reported by Nancy Hansen were town budget, $3452.81, and The Heritage Fund, $3,487.82.

Membership: The commission has two new alternate members, Nathan Merrill and Georgiana Law.

OLD BUSINESS:

Planning Board: MJ Werner reported on a search to fill Chuck Grassie’s vacancy.

Survey: Becky and Nancy worked on a draft of the letter to be sent to property owners of 70 plus sites in the Portsmouth Avenue corridor being surveyed this fall. The letter is designed to inform the owners of the survey as well as invite their participation. Commission members gave additional input. Nancy will e-mail another draft. Bev and Flossie volunteered to mail the letters the week of August 24.

Becky will be reviewing the training manual with Mary Kate Ryan (DHR) readying for the September 26 training session.

Data Base Report: Debbie Long sent a report on her progress designing the data base. Commission members decided that winter would be the ideal time to work on this.

Postcard Project: Bev discussed the photo problem now that Chuck Grassie, who possessed the originally selected photos, has resigned. MJ volunteered herself and her daughter to take photographs of the area—especially barns.

NEW BUSINESS:

Next Meeting: There will be no August meeting. It was decided to hold the September meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 5:30 pm.
