Magazine Search
If you need magazine or other periodical articles about a topic, this is the
place to look. You will be able to search for articles by subject or
keyword and many of the articles are available to be printed. We may
also be able to get the article faxed to us from the State Library. If you have
trouble logging on, don't hesitate to ask a staff member for assistance.
Introducing EBSCO!
We are pleased to be able to offer you the EBSCO Magazine, Journal and Newspaper databases
to help you find all of the information you need.
EBSCO has some great features tailored to
different information needs. There are resources geared to school-age children (Searchasaurus!)
as well as Business and Education databases.
We're especially excited about Novelist - This
tool helps you find out what to read next. Readers can use a favorite author or
title as a way to locate other authors and titles of interest. Besides locating books to read, you can learn
more about books and authors through Feature Articles and Book Discussion Guides. And if you
find some titles you'd like to read, send us an e-mail request at Library@WigginML.org
or, look it up in our on-line catalog and send a patron request.
All of these resources are easy to search and we think you will like using them. Also, you will
be able to use it from your own computer outside the library! If you would like to try
EBSCO from home, stop by the library & pick up the remote access account name and password.
To try EBSCO, follow the instructions below.
**When you click on the link to either of the search pages below, it
will open up in a new browser window so that you can switch back
and forth between the windows in order to follow the login
instructions on this page.
**Please note: Some of the pages in EBSCO use "javascript"
which can make loading slow in some versions of Netscape or older versions of either browser.
How to Login to EBSCO:
- Read the searching instructions on this page.
- Click on this link to the EBSCO Login Page.
- On the login page, in the "User ID" box, type the user ID you received at the library.
- In the password box, type the password you received at the library.
*Why can't you just give me the User ID & Password on the Web site?*
- Click on the gray "Login" icon.
- You will be looking at the "Start Your Research" page.
- For a description of each one of these resources, click on the "Need Help?" link in the upper
right corner of the screen.
- For General periodical searches, choose "EBSCOhost Web"
- For Kids, choose "Searchasaurus"
- For Book Recommendations, choose "Novelist"
- To Browse topics, choose "TOPICsearch"
- If you choose a general periodical search (EBSCOhost Web), you will be directed to a list
of databases to choose from. "MasterFILE Premier" is the most general, and a great place to start.
Once you have checked the box next to the database(s) you want to search, click on "Enter".
- Now you are ready to type in your topic. Start off as specific as you
can. If that doesn't give you any results, you can always try a more general search.
Your search can be as simple or as complex as you would like.
- If you are not getting good results, try asking a staff member for some
searching tips.
- If a result of your search has "Full Text" or "Full Page Image" written under its title, that means
that the full article is available to be printed out. Printing is $0.20 per
page. If you are unsure how many pages an article is, ask a staff member
for assistance before printing.
- When you are finished searching, please click on the "Exit Program" icon in the top
right hand corner of the EBSCO screen. Then click on the small black "x" in the top right corner
of the EBSCO window to close the extra window - that will bring you back to the library's pages.
Then pay for any printouts at the main desk.

Why can't you just give me the User ID & Password on the Web site?
This service is only available to NH library users through a contract between EBSCO and
the NH State Library. For that reason, we can't make the User ID & Password available via
the Web, where anyone could access that information. For more information on the services
that the NH State Library make available, please visit http://www.nhewlink.state.nh.us/
